2026 is an important year to celebrate the end of slavery, as African American voting rights are being decimated. If you’re not Black, this is a good time to show up as an ally to Black-led events. Many cities and towns hold some kind of Juneteenth cultural celebration, usually without any focus on pressing for racial justice. Here are a few that promise to have some political content:

Worcester - Black Heritage Juneteenth
Don’t let up the pressure on Citizens Bank
Why hasn’t Citizens Bank pulled out of financing the evil private prison company GEO Group*? As faith groups pulled out $2 million more, Citizens’ corporate messages have shifted to ‘well, immigration policy is politics and we’re just a business’ - major BS! They need to hear from all of us how unacceptable that is.

(*FYI: GeoGroup is the owner of the Delaney Hall detention center where detainees are on hunger and labor strike over horrific conditions and unjust imprisonment, as well as owning many other ICE prisons.)
If you speak Spanish - a cry for help from Texas
In the Dallas / Fort Worth area, about 100 people are being abducted by ICE daily, and the immigrant hotline (like Luce in our area) is overwhelmed. They are looking for bilingual volunteers anywhere in the US to answer some of the calls. Even an hour or two a week would help. If you can help, email johnmajercak@proton.me.
